Substories

Chapter 2 Substories

All of these substories will only become available after Kiryu returns to his apartment for the night as part of the story. They open up the next morning, as he's looking for info on Tachibana Real Estate.

#2 - Arakure Quest

Outside the Don Quijote is a conspicuous line of people. Speak to the young lad at the end and he'll let you know it's a line-up for a hot new video game and he'll be getting the last copy available. What a trooper. Leave the area and come back and you'll see the kid being accosted by a no-goodnik who will take his game. Run down the alley towards Pink St. and you'll see that guy get counter-accosted. Now, hurry up Pink St. towards Taihei Blvd. and... I think we're getting the pattern here. Beat this guy down (mind his knife) and then head west along Taihei to find the yakuza guy near the save point. Ruin him (mind his GUN?) and you'll finally get the game back for the sprout. Your reward is a Sunburst katana.

#4 - Kamurocho Undercover

Go to Shellac in the Champion District and you'll see a guy in a newsboy cap sitting in the first seat. Try to sit at the further seat and you'll be shooed away. Once the scene plays out you'll learn about a gun trade operating out of the bar. Once you leave, walk away for a bit and then a marker will appear over Shellac on the map. Return to the bar and speak once again to the reporter. You'll head outside and beat up the gun dealer. Your reward for this is a 9mm Automatic Pistol.

#6 - Damned Yanki

To begin this, head south from Children's Park towards Mach Bowl. An odd old man/punk will run across your path. Head further into Theater Square and you'll see some people gathered, and that same man off to the side. Speak to him and he'll ask you to teach his group how to really get in with the "yanki" style popular in Japan around this time. What you get as a result of these depends on how you answer. There are two good answers and one bad answer for every question. The good answers are: "Start your engines!" or "Hello in English", "Fighting every day" or "Rescuing puppies", and "The time you crushed a gang" or "Stay silent". If you get good answers for all three, you're rewarded with a Wild Shirt. If you only get two, you get a Charismatic Autobiography. If you only get one, you get the Charismatic Photo. Krazy Kyo will also become an advisor for your business once you get access.

#7 - How To Train Your Dominatrix

For some odd reason, you have to complete Substory #9 first to make this appear. Right near the Heroine Karaoke Bar, you'll see an obvious woman in an S&M getup. Approach her to hear her speaking to a custommer and then speak to the woman afterwards. Looks like Ayu needs some help in her line of work. First, deal with the jerks harassing her, then you'll head to the park (in view of children, because whatever) and the two of you will go through a role-play, with Kiryu as the submissive. You'll have to pick lines for Ayu to say. I've recently learned that there are a couple of ways to go about this. Here are the options for the responses:

  • This first option is for being a successful dominatrix. First is "Who gave you permission to speak, pig!?". For the second you can pick whatever you like. For the third, "I bet you'd like that, you pervert!". Now, the kids show up, so use them and select "They're watching you get humiliated!". Ayu will get her groove back and you'll get a Fur Belly Warmer.
  • Alternatively, you can choose to steer Ayu towards being more of a "tsundere" type. Select "It's not like I'm happy to see you or anything!" Secondly, again, it seems anything works. Third, "Gross! I'm the only who would do that for you!" When the kids arrive, "Keep your eyes on me, and me alone!" You'll create a whole new brand of dominatrix and will get a Collapsible Steel Staff as a reward.

If you waffle in your direction, which is to say, if you choose a lame answer, a good answer, and a tsundere answer, you'll get a Toughness Z, but everything will largely wrap up the same way. The "Ayu Sakurai" video will be viewable at Gandhara. Also, once you get access to your Real Estate business, "masoch*stic Man" will be hanging outside your office to join as an advisor.

#8 - Password Protected

In the Kamuro Shopping Area, go to the south end of the wider street to see two guys. One gives the other a password but Kiryu didn't pick up all of it. Talk to the merchant and he'll mention that you need the password. Head out the north end of the Shopping Area and speak to the guy who was just shopping there. He'll send you to find a woman named Monmon, who will be marked on your map on the east side of Taihei. Walk to up to her and say "Plans for today" and "Tomorrow's weather" and YOU FIGHT NOW. Beat down the four dudes (careful of their weapons) and Monmon will give you the password: "a movie date" and "rain at noon". Head back to the guy at the north end of the Shopping Area and give him the news. He'll go make a deal and give you a Broken M1985. Head back to the dealer. You'll actually have to type in the password, so tell him "Subotenuhigeukiro", and yes you have to capitalize the "S". This gives you access to this dealer as a shop with weapons and gear. Also, once you open the real estate business, Li Leung will want to join as security.

#9 - The Show Must Go On

Near the Shrine are a couple of guys chatting. Approach them and they'll mention their need for a producer. Or really, they just need someone to stand there and look like a producer. Agree to their proposition and you'll get a fancy costume change. During the course of the shoot, you'll be asked to do a few things. First, you'll have to give your greeting, and anything works fine. For the next part, you'll have to grab an "erasable". That's the food (because it can be erased from the scene by being eaten). Next, you'll be asked to "grocer" the food. Your response should be to "tilt it at an angle". Lastly, you'll be asked to "jeer" and "strike the set". That means to "remove the dish". If you get it all right, you'll receive a Magnetic Necklace. Get too many things wrong and you'll only get a Tauriner +. After all that, you'll have to fight the real producer and his cronies.

#12 - Miracle on Tenkaichi Street

You must first complete "The Show Must Go On". Head to the small lot near the western Akaushimaru south of Theater Square and you'll hear two guys talking about the American pop star, "Miracle Johnson". Sounds like one smooth criminal. Leave the area and come back once a marker appears on the map in that area and you'll find Papillon Kato, the director from before, who's shooting a "thrilling" music video. Anyway, agree to his request and, long story short, you'll have to protect Miracle from approaching hordes of zombies. I suggest using Beast Style as the zombies will swarm and their whole schtick is knocking you down, so it's best to grab a big weapon and use Beast to demolish them. As a reward, Miracle will offer you the choice of a black or white box. Choose black to get Silent Shoes, and choose white to get a Baseball Shirt. I suggest black because a Baseball Shirt can be bought very easily in town. Furthermore, once you start the real estate business, both Papillon Kato and Spining will want to join your business as managers and will be found waiting outside.

#17 - Underneath It All

Head east along Shichif*cku St. starting from Maharaja and you'll come across a high school couple arguing. Talk to the young man afterwards and he'll mention that his girlfriend might be selling herself. Tragic. Head down to Senryo Ave., where the marker is, and you'll find Mina there. Speak to her. The dialogue choices you make are largely unimportant, but they get to the heart of the matter that Mina is involved in "burusera", where Japanese high school girls sell their used clothes to whoever is willing to buy. She'll mention Sachiko up by the Hotel District as being the ringleader, so you'll be looking for a long-haired girl wearing a school uniform with a white collar and a blue scarf, and she might be wearing a cardigan. Head up that way and you'll find a veritable gaggle of girls. Sachiko is the one near the plants on the west side of the street, with the blue scarf. Confront her. You'll have to choose all the options, but Sachiko will just tell you off. Walk away and a problem will show up. Deal with him and you'll close out the substory. Once you open the real estate business, Sachiko will want to join as a manager.

#24 - The Girl in the Video

After viewing three videos at Gandhara in Kamurocho, return and you'll see another customer. I won't spoil how this goes, because frankly... I don't want to, but agree to the guy's proposition. Anyway, looks like you're looking for a girl. I'll just tell you that she's hanging out at Kanrai. Once you spot her, head back to the front of Gandhara and let the man know. Go back to Kanrai and then you'll fight alongside him against a couple of ne'er-do-wells. Once you open your business, Video Boy will want to be security.

#28 - Don't Dance Alone

Dance three times at the Maharaja and you'll be approached by a goofy-looking fellow. He'll challenge you to a dance battle. Essentially you'll have to play Friday Night and beat him, and difficulty doesn't matter. You'll get as many chances as you need to win.

#29 - Technique to Die For

You must complete "Don't Dance Alone". Leave the Maharaja, return, and go to the bar to be approached by Maiko. She'll challenge you to a dance battle. Beat her at Queen of Passion. She's better than the first guy, so be wary.

#30 - Maharaja Showdown

You must complete "Technique to Die For", leave and return to Maharaja. You'll now see Ogita on the dance floor. This is your final dance battle challenge, and he's a tough customer. You'll have to shoot for extra steps and hit Fever at least twice. I suggest dancing on Normal instead of Easy, because he'll make more mistakes on Normal. Once you win, compliment Ogita and you'll get an Isobe Fan. Bye, Ogita! See you in Yakuza 5!

#36 - I am Kazuma-kun

After winning a couple of races in Pocket Circuit, you'll be introduced to Takuma-kun and Hideki-kun. Walk towards the shop booth in the Stadium and Takuma-kun will approach you. Accept his challenge to race. Defeat him to close the substory and get a Blue Bolt decal.

#37 - The Rocky Road of Romance

After completing "I am Kazuma-kun", head to Children's Park to find Takuma-kun and Hideki-kun. Hideki-kun's new friend shows up and she's a GIRL! Oh, the drama! Head back to the PCS and find Hideki-kun, then wipe the floor with him on the Beginners' Cup.

#38 - Gift of Love

After completing "The Rocky Road of Romance", speak to Mika-chan and she'll challenge you for her "most important thing". This is where these substories start to get difficult. Defeat her using your Rookie's Race build and you'll receive a DRAG-ON car and a set of Boost Gears. I'd like to point out that after this point, being able to complete the next set of substories requires a bankroll in order to buy the necessary parts, so don't be afraid to leave this chain for a while until you can come back with much more money.

#39 - Suspicion of Perversion

After completing "Gift of Love", leave the stadium, come back, then head towards the Parts Shop. Your next challenge is against Satoru-kun. Use your Pro-Am build to beat him.

#40 - The Prodigious Racer

After completing "Suspicion of Perversion", it's time to meet the first of the Three Elites. First up is Sena-chan the Ace. Defeat her with your Experts' Race build. You'll get a Sunshine decal for the win.

#41 - The Woman They Call Professor

After completing "The Prodigious Racer", head to Earth Angel to challenge the next of the Elites: Harumi-chan the Professor. Defeat her with your Experts' Race build and you'll get a Cool Striker car and a Heavy Suspension.

#42 - The Greatest Glory

After completing "The Woman They Call Professor", it's finally time to defeat the last of the Elites: Kazuyoshi-kukn the Champion. Use your King of Speed Cup build against him to win. You'll get a Dark Purple decal for the victory.

#43 - The Fighter's Crown

After completing "The Greatest Glory" and completing all the races, Pocket Circuit Fighter will finally challenge you himself. Your setup is a special one and is listed above in the chart. The first two laps are where this is decided, because you will start to fly off as you reach the back, so be ready to tap the button but don't go overboard, because you'll likely have to hit it again on the jump. Do the same on the second lap. The third and fourth should be fine comparatively. Once you win, everyone will come by to congratulate you. You now have the ability to talk to anyone in the Stadium and challenge them specifically.

#46 - The Stop-and-Search Specialist

South of Gandhara Kamurocho, you'll see a cop standing around. Approach him and he'll ask to see your belongings. Pick something innocuous (like food or an energy drink) and he'll become your friend. To cultivate the friendship, continue to return to where he's standing. He'll do a "stop-and-search" in order to see if you're carrying something dangerous. Show him something normal to raise friendship. Showing him something dangerous (like a weapon) doesn't have any negative effects, but your Friendship won't raise. At certain times, you'll hear his story. Once the meter gets high enough, you'll have to fight off some bad guys harassing a nearby lady. You'll get a Sacrifice Stone as a reward, as well as the Nanase Otoha video clip. Lastly, once your business opens, Kikuchi will want to join as security.

#47 - The Mushroom Merchant

In the northeast part of town is Park Alley, which is just southwest of the taxi stand. At the end of it is a rotund fellow looking to sell mushrooms. After the conversation, you'll fight a dude. As a reward for saving him, you get an Enokitake and Kitajima as your friend. Buy his mushrooms to raise friendship. Once you buy enough to continue his little story, he'll thank you and leave the area. Leave yourself, then return to the same area later and you'll find some more uglies harassing him. Beat them up, then buy more mushrooms from him until he walks off to stock up. Leave and come back again, and now there are three guys to beat up. Offer him a new suggestion (try whichever you like), buy more mushrooms, then leave and come back once more. Now you have to beat up four guys from overseas and that will close out the Friendship quest. Once you open up the real estate business, the Mafia Boss will want to become security for you.

#50 - Pocket Circuit Fighter!

Head to the Pocket Circuit Stadium on the west side of Shichif*cku St., enter and speak to Pocket Circuit Fighter, then speak to him again and learn the tutorial to Pocket Circuit. This will complete the substory and you'll get PCF as your friend. To increase friendship with him, beat successive races and you'll learn his story after each race. This also ties in with the Pocket Circuit series of substories as well. After beating the Rookies' Race, PCF will run off. You'll see him on the east side of Nakamichi St. Speak to him and tell him "The kids are waiting for you" to get him back to the Stadium. Once you beat the Champions' Cup, he'll run off again. Go find him in Public Park 3. You'll get the Devil Killer car as a reward for maxing out the Friendship. Also, you'll be able to make your own custom tracks to race on.

#51 - Miho, Convenience Store Clerk

Buy something at the Poppo on Tenkaichi St. and Miho will introduce herself and you'll get her as a friend. Keep buying things from her and at 50% friendship, she'll ask what might help attract people to the store. Offer a suggestion, then leave and come back. If she uses your suggestion, you'll get a Berserker Charm. Also the correct answer to her next question is "Miso Cutlets" and you'll get a Miso Cutlet Lunch Set, as well as Miho's video. This will also allow you to get the property for free once you start your real estate business.

#52 - Emiri, Mach Bowl Receptionist

I'm not sure exactly what's required to get Emiri's attention. It may just be that you'll have to bowl in general, but it's also possible that you may be required to get a few strikes in order to spark her interest. Once you finish a round and she's impressed enough, she'll introduce herself. Continue to bowl to increase friendship steadily. Once you hit 80% on the friendship meter, she'll mention a special event, but you won't be able to participate until you start Real Estate Royale in Chapter 5 and defeat the Leisure King. Speak to Emiri at that point and she'll challenge you to bowl a turkey: three strikes in a row. Do so and you'll get... a chicken. And Emiri's video. The chicken will be named Nugget and instated as a manager. Cluck.

#53 - Sushi Gin's Chef

Eat a couple of times at Sushi Gin and the chef will become your friend. Continue eating to raise the Friendship Gauge and continue conversations with him. He'll ask if you can bring him fish. Head to the Pier via taxi to find the fishing minigame and start reeling them in. He'll need about four fish total for you to bring him, and crazily enough, it can be any kind of fish. Give them to him one at a time. After the fourth, leave and come back and you'll get a cutscene to finish the friendship. This will allow you to get the property for free once you start your real estate business.

#54 - Luka at SEGA HI-TECH LAND

Play Out Run at the arcade and Luka will take notice. Play again and she'll mention working on her high score. Come back in and she'll bring up her score of 1.5 million. Beat that and you get an Alertness Hood. Play once more and then she'll comment again. Come back and she'll give you a score of 3 million to beat. Do so and Super Hang-On will be installed in the arcade. You'll also get Luka's video. This will also allow you to get the property for free once you start your real estate business.

#89 - Bacchus' Training

This will only pop up late in Chapter 2, after you give alcohol to the homeless guys. Bacchus will call you into the nearby alley, so go there and help him take down his debt collector.

#90 - Kamoji's Training

This is a quick substory to set up Kamoji as a Master. Go to the Shichif*cku Parking Lot and speak to him.

#91 - Miss Tatsu's Training

This is a quick substory to set up Miss Tatsu as a Master. Go to the Pier in Tokyo and speak with her.

#92 - Apex Predator

Run into Mr. Shakedown (after your first meeting). This man in a trilby is the one of two in Kamurocho. His name is Egashira. Use your best skills to bring him down, or just cheat and spam Heat Actions with medicine to bring yourself back up.

#93 - A Dream Unfulfilled

The second Mr. Shakedown is a guy in a purple jacket named Sato. Beat the tar out of him to close out the substory.

Chapter 2 Substories - Yakuza 0 Walkthrough & Guide (2024)

FAQs

Is it possible to miss Substories in Yakuza 0? ›

Nope, you can clean them up at the end of the game and in premium adventure (This series' version of a post-game/sandbox mode). edit: I should add, the only things that are missable (in that you can't do them past a certain point) are a few trophies that are tied to specific points in certain chapters.

Can you fail substories in Yakuza 0? ›

Also, while you can mess up on substories in that you won't necessarily get the best items from them, you cannot "miss" substories in terms of completion or part of the story.

Should you tell Erran Kun the truth? ›

You can tell him the truth or pretend nothing is wrong. The outcome doesn't change either way.

Is Miracle Johnson black or white box Yakuza 0? ›

As a reward, Miracle will offer you the choice of a black or white box. Choose black to get Silent Shoes, and choose white to get a Baseball Shirt. I suggest black because a Baseball Shirt can be bought very easily in town.

Can you get a girlfriend in Yakuza 0? ›

To have any chance of dating one of the women, you must complete the telephone club mini-game. So, first, you need to pass the one button QTE that occurs when they call. Then you progress onto the conversation, which is a shooting gallery.

Are Substories missable? ›

Substories are not missable, but I personally like to deal with them as soon as they appear on the map.

Which Yakuza game is hardest to 100%? ›

Some Yakuza games, like the first one, are relatively easy to 100 percent completion in around 30.5 hours. Yakuza Kiwami 2 introduces more content, requiring about 77.5 hours for a completionist run. Yakuza 5 is the longest game in terms of completion time, with around 150 hours needed to fully complete it.

How long does it take to 100% Yakuza 0? ›

When focusing on the main objectives, Yakuza 0 is about 31½ Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 143 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

Can I play Yakuza 0 after kiwami? ›

A: Honestly, you can go either way. Yakuza Kiwami is a remake/remaster of the very first Yakuza game; Yakuza 0 is a prequel to that game which was made later.

How did Majima lose his eye? ›

Majima was tortured for a year and his left eye gouged out, after which he was handed over to Shimano's sworn brother Tsukasa Sagawa in the Omi Alliance.

How did Majima meet Koko Chan? ›

After a while, Kokoa's father appears and joins Kokoa and Majima at the eatery, with Majima beginning to introduce himself: he claims to be a dentist, having met Kokoa in a theater as he sat next to her while watching a movie.

How to increase friendship with miho? ›

To raise your friendship meter, buy items from the clerk. The price of the item does not matter. The bar fills the same amount, regardless. Buy one item at a time to gradually raise the friendship meter.

What's better Yakuza 0 or Kiwami? ›

Aside from Majima (Kiryu's frenemy) pursuing you to hilarious effect, I wouldn't say Yakuza: Kiwami is all that strong an entry. It's got a decent story, but when compared to Yakuza 0 or later entries, its combat, side stories and minigames just aren't as exciting or interesting.

Does Yakuza order matter? ›

Kiwami/Kiwami 2 are remakes of Yakuza 1 & 2 and LaD is Yakuza 7. Play them in numeric order, they are all set within the same world/continuity and while the stories are fairly self contained, there are callbacks/references/recurring characters and you'll get more out of playing them than not.

Can you go back and do Substories Yakuza 0? ›

6 Complete Any Remaining Substories

There is an abundance of them in Yakuza 0, so you probably have a bunch left uncompleted after finishing the main story. And it's certainly worth going around to find and finish them. You aren't likely to get bored as there is plenty of creativity put into each one.

Does Yakuza 0 have missable achievements? ›

There are eight missable trophies in this game, or more correctly, through the course of the story. I've provided details in the walkthrough about how to get them, and I've also provided vague hints in the FAQ section.

Do Yakuza substories disappear? ›

Yes, you can do it later. During the finale, you'll be given the option to take a break from the main story and mop up any side content you missed before the final battle, and all substories will be available then. Substory progress also carries over into Premium Adventure, so you can do it then, if you want.

Can you miss anything in Yakuza like a dragon? ›

There is no missable content. You can complete everything as long as you finish the last chapter and unlock the Premium (not NG+) mode. There's very rarely anything missable in RGG games. Actually I did find character-specific armour (not the class specific ones you can find) in one of the plot related dungeons.
