Leadership Insights to Inspire Teams & Drive Innovation | symplr (2024)

I have the distinct privilege of leading a team that's not just at the forefront of healthcare technology but also setting the standard for what it means to excel in today's fast-paced, innovation-driven industry. Reflecting on three recent prestigious awards for symplr has me thinking about what I’ve learned as a leader about creating and sustaining culture, fostering purpose, and driving excellence in execution. These ingredients are critical to delivering company and customer success and make work fun along the way, and I’m proud we have them in practice at symplr as we relentlessly work to transform healthcare.

Exceeding Best Practices

In my 25 years in the tech sector, I’ve learned that a well-defined, yet flexible strategy (think strong opinions, loosely held) is the backbone of sustained success. By setting clear goals for the company and maintaining the ability to pivot as needed, we ensure that we are always positioned to seize new opportunities and navigate challenges. I think we all demonstrated that during COVID, and that nimbleness continues today as we constantly evolve to meet the needs of our customers.

Our recent recognition as one of only three healthcare companies to be named a 2024 U.S. Best Managed Company speaks volumes about the exceptional team we've built and the practices we've implemented to stay ahead in a competitive environment.

This award, issued by Deloitte and The Wall Street Journal, celebrates the achievements of an elite group of U.S. private companies for top performance against four cornerstones of company success: strategy, execution, culture, and governance/financials. It reflects our unwavering commitment to work towards excellence in every facet of our operations and to not just meet best practices and standards in these areas, but to exceed them and lead the way. That’s what it means to be "the best" in our industry.
Furthermore, being named a U.S. Best Managed Company is a clear indication that our collaborative efforts to drive meaningful change in healthcare have not gone unnoticed.

A Winning Culture

Fostering a positive, inclusive, and dynamic workplace culture is integral to a company’s success and is too often overlooked. I learned long ago that people are a company’s greatest asset, and we overinvest in this area to help create a company culture where everyone feels included and can thrive. Making sure there is an overarching sense of purpose throughout symplr helps us move as one, which is critical in a company that has grown both organically and inorganically. Plus, people are truly inspired by the work we do to impact healthcare, and this purpose gives us something to rally behind.

Our recent Great Place To Work® Certification is an honor that holds a special place in my heart because it is based entirely on feedback from our employees, in which nearly 8 out of 10 participated. The independent survey found that 85% said symplr is a great place to work, and 91% feel the people here care about each other. More than just a great place to work, symplr is a community committed to maintaining an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and inspired to bring their best.

Innovating for the Future

At symplr, we believe in pushing the envelope. By encouraging creative thinking and risk-taking, hosting hackathons, and leveraging partners, we can develop solutions that meet the evolving needs of our industry and scale. Our continuous drive for innovation is a cornerstone of our success, as evidenced by our award-winning provider data management (PDM) platform.

For the second year in a row, The MedTech Breakthrough Awards program selected us as the winner of the “Best Provider Data Management Platform,” spotlighting our team's innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to solving the complex challenges our customers face. Delays in credentialing can cost providers much-needed revenue, and inaccuracies impact safety. Our leading PDM platform enables teams to seamlessly credential and privilege providers, ensuring that their information remains accurate and actionable, which directly enhances healthcare organizations’ patient experience, referral management, network management, and revenue cycle operations.

Looking Ahead

At symplr, we believe our focus on operational excellence, standout workplace culture, and constant drive for innovation are key ingredients of our success. As CEO of this amazing team, I can sum up my perspective in one simple statement: make sure your people know they matter. When employees feel valued and heard, loyalty and high performance naturally follow. Don’t shy away from creative thinking and taking calculated risks—this is how you stay ahead in your industry. Always listen to your customers and incorporate their feedback to keep your solutions both relevant and user-friendly. By focusing on these principles, you can guide your company to sustained growth and success, while making a meaningful impact in your field.
